Q: I’ve never really worked with a barbell before, is weightlifting only for advanced lifters?
A: While having some experience with weight training in general can definitely help ease the transition into weightlifting, it is not an absolute necessity. We have programs geared specifically to beginners that will guide you step-by-step along your journey into weightlifting, ensuring that fundamental skills are taught and essential qualities are developed.
Q: If I want to be part of your weightlifting program, does that mean I have to compete?
A: Absolutely not! While we have an ever growing team of competitive lifters, we also have many in our program who just like to lift for fun and have no intentions of competing. There are many rewarding elements to weightlifting, and competition is just one small facet. Weightlifting is a great outlet to hone a skill, test your grit, and share in a fun hobby with a supportive community, and you can achieve all of this without ever stepping foot on a competition platform.
Q: Speaking of the competition platform, I have big aspirations of competing at a high level, but I have no idea where to begin…can you help me?
A: We certainly can! Our coaches have guided athletes through competition at the local level all the way up to the national stage. Competing for the first time presents many challenges, but none of which you need to face alone. Take advantage of our teams extensive competitive background and let us help prepare you for that big competition day!
Q: I am currently focused on becoming a better (insert any sport) player, will weightlifting help performance in my sport?
A: While weightlifting won’t necessary help you improve your sport skills (only training your specific sport skills will do that), it will, in fact, make you a better all-around athlete. The Olympic lifts will teach you to become a stronger, more explosive athlete with better body awareness, control, and resiliency. Many of our athletes utilize weightlifting to help them improve performance on the field, court, ice, or whatever the competitive arena might be.
Q: Okay, so I am really interested in learning more about weightlifting, but I want to be taught by someone who knows their stuff…who oversees your weightlifting programs?
A: Great question, and we totally agree that weightlifting should be taught by qualified coaches. Our weightlifting program is run by Aspire Athletic Performance Owner, Michael Craven. Michael is a certified USA-Weightlifting Advanced Weightlifting & Sports Performance Coach. He has coached and competed at the local and national level, and is passionate about bringing out the best in all whom he gets the opportunity to work with. No doubt, you will be in good hands should you choose to join our program!
